Sunshine Productions Event Volunteer Information

ALL VOLUNTEERS:

  • Safety First!

Stay hydrated throughout your shift – bring a water bottle.

Eat before you arrive and tuck a snack into your pocket for later.

Participant and volunteer safety is our first priority.  Make decisions based on this throughout your shift.

Be aware of vehicular traffic patterns in your area – whether on route or in the Start/Finish area.

  • Walk, Don’t Run.

Unless responding to a life-threatening situation walk, don’t run as you perform your duties.  Your demeanor should reflect control of the situation and confidence in your decisions.  If you are unsure about how to respond to a situation contact the race director immediately for direction.

  • Touch it once.

When setting up or tearing down your area – whether on route or in the Start/Finish area – follow the best practice of touching things just one time rather than moving them from here to there to there before settling on over there instead.  Work smarter not harder!

  • What’s next.  How can I help?

Once you have your area set up/torn down look around and ask where you can help.

  • Review your area from a participant’s perspective.  Does it look good?  Do they know where to go?  Is it safe?  What questions might they have that you can solve before they are asked?

ROUTE VOLUNTEERS:

(Please read the ALL VOLUNTEERS section as well)

ARRIVAL TIME:  Unless you are told otherwise plan on meeting at the timing tent for a brief crew meeting ONE HOUR before the race starts.  This will give you time to sign in, get your specific route instructions, grab a reflective vest and traffic flag (if needed), and use the restroom before either walking or driving to your assigned spot on the route.  You should be at your assigned spot no later than TEN MINUTES before the race begins.  Please text or radio the race director when you are at your assigned spot and ready for runners.  Be sure to dress for the weather (costumes are always encouraged), wear comfy shoes and to bring a fully charged cell phone!  Your shift will be complete after the last runner passes your spot.  Please text or radio the race director when you leave your position.

START/FINISH VOLUNTEERS:

(Please read the ALL VOLUNTEERS section as well)

ARRIVAL TIME:  Unless you are told otherwise plan on meeting at the Start/Finish area for a brief crew meeting TWO AND A HALF HOURS before the race starts.  If you are running late please let the race director know as we generally have a very short window to set up the area before runners begin arriving.   You may be assigned to one (or more) of the following positions – Bib Pickup, Shirt Pickup, Shirt Sales, Food/Water, Kids Dash, Timing, Gear Check, Medals, Floater.  Your shift duties will include set up and tear down of your assigned area (except timing).  Your shift will be complete after the last runner crosses the finish line and the start/finish area is torn down.  If you have time concerns please reach out to the race director.
